On April 14, organized by the International Institute of Wine and Vine, a conference on “Organic Viticulture, its opportunities and agronomic solutions” was held at the headquarters of the Regulatory Council of the Jerez-Xêres-Sherry and Manzanilla-Sanlúcar de Barrameda DOOs.
A large representation of technicians from wineries, cooperatives, vine growers, as well as representatives from the UCA and IFAPA attended the event. The presentations were given by Ms. Auxiliadora Vecina, Innovation Director of ECOVALIA and Mr. Joaquín Romero, Head of Scientific Development of ECONATUR. ECOVALIA presented the situation of organic viticulture in the different territorial areas, as well as the opportunities for organic viticulture in the Jerez and Sanlúcar DOs, highlighting its growth in the last seven years. ECONATUR explained the development and experimentation work being carried out to offer organic viticulture managers biostimulation, nutrition and biocontrol solutions with certified products, as well as the company’s commitment to sustainability. Finally, a round table was held with technical managers and winemakers of the framework and other areas, in this case D. Francisco Robles, manager of Bodegas Robles of the DO Montilla-Moriles. César Saldaña, President of the Regulatory Council of the DO Jerez-Xêres-Sherry and Manzanilla de Sanlúcar DOs, closed the day by highlighting the important and irreversible evolution of organic viticulture, making reference to the singularities of the winemaking and aging systems in our region.
