Biopharma
Natural science for precision agriculture
Biopharma Research:
Multidisciplinary
Innovation for a Sustainable Future
Biopharma Research is our R&D&I centre that provides Econatur with the development of innovative solutions, not only for agriculture, but also for emerging sectors with a high impact on health and wellbeing.
In this leading space, our main mission is to generate and transfer knowledge for the improvement of solutions and the development of new, more efficient and competitive products with high added value. This has become a fundamental pillar of the company’s strategy.
OUR LABORATORIES
Always at the forefront of the industry
Extracts laboratory
Here, scientific studies are carried out to identify and select raw materials and natural ingredients with different functions of interest for agriculture and for the objective to be addressed. Mainly, extractions of the phytochemicals of interest from by-products and other plant materials are carried out using different extraction methodologies.
Analytical laboratory and chromatography
In this laboratory, we characterise the raw materials and the extracted formulations. We have the latest cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art analytical equipment, such as gas and liquid chromatographs and an ion chromatograph, spectrophotometer, LECO. Through these techniques we validate and test the potential of the raw material and the extraction technology used.
Chemical laboratory
In this laboratory, all the sample preparation necessary to carry out the analyses is carried out. It is also equipped with a digester, precision balances, etc.
Climatic chamber
This climatic chamber allows us to evaluate and select the prototypes developed in plants under controlled conditions of temperature, humidity and photoperiod. With the additional advantage that this equipment allows us to reproduce the climatic conditions of any place in the world, we select the exact location we want to reproduce and carry out the test under those specific conditions.
Microbiology Laboratory
Due to the high demand for biological products to replace synthetic chemicals and reduce their application in the field, a few years ago we set up the microbiology lab to develop products based on microorganisms (biofertilisers, biostimulants and biocontrol).
Our team:
science with soul
Biopharma Research is composed of our multidisciplinary scientific team, made up of doctors, graduates and technical experts from various fields, including biologists, chemists, biotechnologists and agricultural engineers.
In addition, Bioharma Research collaborates with third parties for research, field assessment, experimental trials, laboratory analysis and knowledge transfer, in order to promote investment in R&D&I.
We bring together the know-how of more than 25 years of developing pioneering solutions for more efficient, profitable and sustainable agriculture. This journey is reflected not only in our products, but also in the industrial property assets generated:
10 patents (7 at European level and 3 national)
The combination of technical expertise, innovative vision and commitment to sustainability makes our team one of the strongest pillars of the Biopharma Research division.
Lines of research
Phytochemistry
Our know-how phytochemical is based on the study of materials vegetable raw materials for the identification of new bioactive compounds. Phytochemicals have different purposes within the physiology of plants. Econatur focuses its research on understand how these interact active compounds with plant physiology and how we can obtain them for develop new solutions.
Microbiology
The continuous activity of being at the forefront of science and technology has driven the development of knowledge in microbiology. The ecosystem in which the crop is found is a constant interaction between the plant, the soil and what it contains. Microorganisms are the living beings that establish this relationship between the crop and the soil, favouring their development and protecting them from everyday problems. Econatur has 80 different strains of microorganisms on its property.
Metabolomics
Both plants and microorganisms produce, as a result of their metabolism, chemical compounds, which are of interest to us. Studying and identifying how to obtain these chemical compounds from plants and microorganisms, and using them synergistically to develop new solutions, is one of the main challenges to achieve a much more productive and sustainable agriculture.
