Mayor altura y desarrollo vegetativo

In olive oil production, the oil yield of olives is one of the most decisive factors when assessing the harvest. However, this yield does not depend solely on the genetics of the variety or standard agricultural practices, but is closely linked to physiological processes that can be affected by multiple abiotic stress factors.

In this context, targeted biostimulation is an effective strategy for optimising lipogenesis—that is, the synthesis and accumulation of fat in the fruit—especially at key moments in the development of the olive tree.

Understanding the process: When and how is oil formed?

The development of olives is divided into three main phases. During the first two phases, the fruit prioritises cell division and the formation of structural tissues, such as the stone and the embryo. It is not until the third phase, characterised by rapid growth of the pulp (mesocarp), that the cellular machinery responsible for producing oil is activated. This process is called lipogenesis.

This phenomenon occurs mainly between June and September, reaching its peak just before veraison, when the fruit changes colour. During this phase, the physiological balance of the tree is key: any disturbance can compromise lipid accumulation, affecting both the quantity and quality of the oil obtained.

How can biostimulation help?

One of the most effective tools in this regard is e-OLIVE, a solution developed by Econatur based on bioactive compounds such as hydroxybenzoic acids, polyphenols and polyalcohols. Its action is both direct and indirect, focusing on improving the secondary metabolism of the olive tree.

-Hydroxybenzoic acids and hydroxytyrosol: a shield against stress

The hydroxybenzoic acids present in e-Olive have high antioxidant capacity, which is essential for neutralising excess free radicals (ROS) generated during conditions of environmental stress, such as heat waves or water shortages. Hydroxytyrosol, meanwhile, acts as an enzyme protector, preserving the metabolic pathways involved in lipid formation, which translates into greater lipogenesis efficiency.

-Polyphenols: defence and sensory quality

Polyphenols not only strengthen the immune system of olive trees, but also directly influence the organoleptic characteristics of the oil, improving its aroma, flavour, colour and oxidative stability.

-Polyols: efficiency in internal transport

Although they do not directly intervene in fat synthesis, e-Olive polyalcohols promote the movement of photoassimilates from the leaves to the fruit, improving vascularisation and accelerating ripening. This even allows harvesting to be brought forward without compromising yield or the quality of the final oil.

Visible and sustainable results

The application of biostimulant products such as e-OLIVE allows farmers to maintain stable yields even in seasons with climatic stress, making the most of the crop’s genetic potential. Furthermore, by reducing dependence on synthetic inputs and promoting the tree’s natural metabolism, a more sustainable and environmentally friendly model of agriculture is reinforced.

In short, biostimulation is not just a trend, but an essential tool for those seeking modern, efficient olive growing that is adapted to climate change. Investing in technologies such as e-OLIVE means investing in yield, quality and the future.

Innovation that Makes the Difference

In a global context where sustainability is more than a trend, it is an imperative, agriculture faces the challenge of producing more food with fewer resources. According to the FAO, by 2050 we will need to increase food production by 60% to feed a growing population, all within a framework of climate change that threatens traditional farming systems. Against this backdrop, the adoption of technological and sustainable solutions is not only an option, but a collective responsibility.

In our company, we understand this challenge as an opportunity to lead the change towards sustainable and efficient agriculture. For this reason, our plant extracts, the basis of our technologies and therefore of our product catalogue, aim to increase production by reducing fertiliser units, thus following the European line of “Producing more with less”

“Producing more with less

Plant Extracts and the Circular Economy

Our plant extracts are a clear example of how the circular economy can be integrated into agriculture. These innovative products are obtained from agricultural by-products generated by different crops. Instead of discarding this waste, we transform it into high-value compounds to nourish and stimulate plant growth.

This approach not only reduces waste, but also minimises the environmental impact of agricultural production, aligning with global sustainability goals set by organisations such as the United Nations. In fact, our solutions enable farmers to use resources more efficiently, reducing reliance on traditional chemical fertilisers.

Reduce Fertiliser, Increase Production

In our commitment to sustainability, we have developed solutions that not only improve crop health, but also reduce the amount of chemical fertilisers needed. Our trial results (see results below) show that by using our plant extracts, farmers can:

Reduce the use of chemical fertilisers by up to 30%, thereby reducing the environmental impact associated with the production and application of these inputs.

Increase agricultural production by improving nutrient use efficiency and optimising plant metabolism.

This data underlines how our solutions offer a competitive advantage for farmers, while contributing to the well-being of the planet.

People’s health and well-being are deeply linked to what we eat. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), a balanced and nutrient-rich diet is not only essential to prevent disease, but also to ensure a long and healthy life. However, the quality of the food that reaches our tables depends, to a large extent, on how we produce it.

At Econatur, we firmly believe that the key to improving the health of the end consumer starts in the field. Our sustainable, chemical-free agricultural inputs are designed not only to protect the environment and increase crop efficiency, but also to ensure that the food we eat is healthier, more natural and nutritious.

In recent years, the impact of conventional agriculture on health has raised concerns. The indiscriminate use of synthetic chemicals such as pesticides and fertilisers can leave residues in food, posing risks to both consumers and the environment. In fact, WHO reports indicate that more than 600 million people fall ill each year from eating contaminated food.

This is where sustainable agriculture becomes a key solution. This approach, based on the use of clean and ecosystem-friendly technologies, not only preserves soil fertility and biodiversity, but also reduces the risks associated with chemical residues in food.

Our philosophy: From field to fork with transparency

At Econatur, we work with a clear philosophy: produce more with less, taking care of the planet and people. Our products are the result of a deep respect for nature and years of research in agricultural biotechnology. We use plant extracts and natural microorganisms, designed to optimise crops in an effective, ecological and sustainable way, without resorting to chemical synthesis.
This has a direct impact on the health of the end consumer, because:

1. We eliminate chemical residues from food: By avoiding the use of conventional chemical inputs, crops treated with our products are free of harmful residues, providing cleaner and safer food.

2. We enhance nutritional value: Our biostimulants and natural fertilisers not only promote crop growth, but also boost the nutrients contained in crops, such as vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

3. We promote agricultural biodiversity: By caring for soils and respecting natural cycles, we encourage the production of richer, more balanced food, with authentic flavours that benefit both the palate and the body.

Impact on consumer health
Numerous studies have shown that sustainably produced food is not only safer, but also more nutritious. For example:

Higher concentration of antioxidants: Crops treated with sustainable techniques tend to have higher levels of natural antioxidants, which are key to fighting oxidative stress in the body and preventing diseases such as cancer or cardiovascular disease.

Reduction of toxic residues: The absence of synthetic pesticides in food helps to reduce the risks associated with chronic exposure to chemicals.

Improved micronutrient balance: By respecting natural soil cycles and promoting the use of biofertilisers, the absorption of essential minerals such as iron, zinc and magnesium, essential for human health, is improved.

Our commitment to health and sustainability goes beyond agricultural inputs.
20 Years of Innovation in the Service of Agriculture

In the heart of Santaella, a picturesque village in the province of Cordoba, lies La Añoreta, our experimental farm. For the past two decades, this space has been the core of our research and development (R&D) activities, becoming an open-air laboratory where we test agricultural solutions that drive the future of agriculture.
From the beginning, La Añoreta was conceived as a place to experiment, innovate and validate the technologies that today reach the field with our customers. With state-of-the-art infrastructure and a multidisciplinary approach, this is where our mission to improve agricultural efficiency and sustainability takes shape.

A Diversified Space for Testing and Validation
La Añoreta is divided into three distinct zones, designed to simulate different agricultural scenarios:

1.High Tech Greenhouse: This double curved roof greenhouse incorporates the latest technology available to control all possible agronomic aspects. From light and temperature to humidity, everything is monitored to ensure optimal and reproducible conditions. Controlled roofs, shading zones and an advanced automation system allow specific climatic situations to be recreated and the performance of our products to be evaluated in a fully controlled environment.

2. Vegetablegarden for horticultural crops: In this area, key vegetables for the agricultural sector are planted, serving as the basis for our trials with biostimulants, fertilisers and biocontrol products. Here we evaluate their impact on the productivity and nutritional parameters of the crops.

3. Woody and fruit trees: The farm is also home to almond, olive and other woody fruit trees, which allows us to broaden the range of crops on which we test our solutions. This ensures that our products are effective in a diversity of production systems.

20 Years Testing the Future: The Case of ePlus
Among the products that have marked a milestone in our history, ePlus stands out, a biostimulant that has become the mainstay of our company in terms of biostimulation. For two decades, we have subjected ePlus to rigorous testing at La Añoreta, achieving exceptional results:

Productivity increase in all crops evaluated.

Reduction of agricultural inputs, optimising nutrient use efficiency.

Improvements in the nutritional parameters of crops, ensuring higher quality end products.

These trials have not only validated the effectiveness of ePlus, but have also enabled our customers to adopt solutions based on real, proven data.

La Añoreta as a Nucleus of Innovation
The work carried out at La Añoreta goes beyond simple product validation. It is here that we develop tools that enable farmers to face challenges such as resource scarcity, climate variability and the need to produce higher quality food for a demanding market. Each trial brings us closer to the mission of improving agricultural efficiency without compromising the planet’s resources.
After 20 years, La Añoreta continues to be a dynamic space, where technology and nature combine to create a positive impact on agriculture. Our vision for the future includes expanding its capabilities and exploring new technologies that continue to take agriculture to the next level.
While there is still much work to be done, La Añoreta has already proven that it is much more than an experimental farm: it is an engine of innovation that connects science to the field, helping our customers to grow with confidence in an increasingly complex agricultural environment.

Asparagus cultivation in Peru has been one of the great success stories of modern Peruvian agriculture, becoming a major source of exports and a symbol of agricultural growth. This product is not only vital to the Peruvian economy, but has also put the country on the map as one of the world’s leading producers and exporters of asparagus. The history, development and future projection of asparagus cultivation in Peru reveal how the combination of natural resources, innovation and agricultural work has allowed this sector to grow and diversify.

Its origins

Asparagus, originally from the Mediterranean region, was brought to the Americas by European conquerors, although its cultivation did not become significantly established until the 20th century. In Peru, commercial cultivation of asparagus began in the 1960s, when local farmers started experimenting with this vegetable due to its high value in international markets. The first plantings were made in the coastal region of Ica, where the dry and warm climate proved to be ideal for growing asparagus, which requires a long growing season and well-drained soils.

Over the following decades, the asparagus sector expanded rapidly. During the 1980s and 1990s, the modernisation of agricultural techniques, the improvement of irrigation infrastructure and access to international markets, mainly in the United States and Europe, enabled Peru to consolidate its position as one of the world’s leading asparagus producers. In a short time, asparagus became an essential pillar of Peruvian agriculture.

Importance for the Peruvian economy

Asparagus has acquired a transcendental importance for the Peruvian economy. Today, Peru is the world’s largest exporter of asparagus, accounting for more than 50% of global exports of this vegetable. The main producing regions are Ica, La Libertad and Lambayeque, which benefit from their proximity to the Pacific Ocean and their exceptional agricultural conditions. This crop has generated thousands of direct and indirect jobs, involving both small farmers and large agricultural companies.

In addition to its economic contribution, asparagus has played an important role in improving Peru’s trade balance. Thanks to the growing demand in international markets, especially in Europe and North America, asparagus has brought significant foreign exchange to the country, favouring the development of other industries such as transport, infrastructure and food processing. Peruvian asparagus is appreciated for its superior quality, which has allowed it to remain a competitive product in the global market.

Asparagus cultivation in Peru continues to be a dynamic sector, although it faces challenges such as growing competition from producing countries like China and Mexico. Despite this, Peru maintains its advantage thanks to its experience, infrastructure and the quality of its product. In addition, climate change represents a major challenge, with variations in rainfall and extreme temperatures affecting production. To cope with these problems, Peruvian producers have adopted irrigation technologies, environmental control systems and sustainable agricultural practices, such as planting in greenhouses and efficient water management, allowing them to remain competitive.

A promising future

The future of asparagus cultivation in Peru is promising, with a focus on sustainability, market diversification and continuous quality improvement. The country is expected to remain a world leader in production and exports, especially with the expansion of markets in Asia, where demand for fresh and processed asparagus is increasing. Research into new varieties that are more resistant to climate change and diseases, together with the implementation of ecological farming practices and organic certifications, will allow for more efficient and sustainable production. In addition, the growth of the processing sector, with by-products such as frozen and canned asparagus, will open up new market opportunities and higher profit margins.

In turn, it has been an engine of economic growth, employment and agricultural development. From its humble beginnings to its consolidation as a pillar of the country’s export economy, asparagus has proven to be a vegetable of great value to Peru. Although it faces challenges such as climate change and international competition, the combination of technological innovation, sustainability and access to global markets promises a bright future for this crop. Asparagus is not only a symbol of Peruvian agriculture, but also an example of how the agricultural sector can adapt and thrive in a globalised world.
