Development of novel mycoinsecticides from potential fungal strains to control insect pests of horticultural crops
THAINATUR is a project of BIOPHARMA RESEARCH SA for the development of new mycoinsecticides from fungal strains with potential to control insect pests of hotcultural crops.
Fungi are the most important group of pathogens in Spain and in the world. In spite of this, all aspects involving these organisms are not negative, as many of them have been successfully applied to fight diseases caused even by species of the same kingdom. Their future as biological control agents is promising, although they have certain advantages and disadvantages compared to the traditional way of combating diseases caused by the various pathogens, chemicals. As antagonists they exert different mechanisms of action such as antibiosis, competition for different biotic and abiotic factors, they can act as mycoparasites, induce resistance in plants and other strategies.
This is why BIOPHARMA RESEARCH together with MAE FAH LUANG UNIVERSITY, saw the need to research fungal isolates to develop new organic bioinsecticides based on the formulation of beneficial fungal extracts that can be made available to farmers to protect crops from insect pests while ensuring the agri-food safety requirements set by the European authorities, where priority is given to the use of alternative products, including chemical plant protection products.
Start of project: 01/01/2020 End of project: 31/01/2023
This project has been co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) with the aim of promoting technological development, innovation and quality research.
